Cross Media Lab (XML) describes an ongoing research project that uses contemporary media and technology to create interfaces between artificial and natural surfaces in order to create stronger connections between the digital and the real world. The results are shown in form of publications, media installations or audiovisual performances
form issue n. 286 presents a collection of the most interesting, relevant and beautiful surfaces and complements them with a declaration of love to the surface in the form of an essay and interviews with designers and professionals from the materials sector.

The audiovisual installation in collaboration with Simon Schallé and Zoé Mahlau shows memories of a mirror and was created from the idea of what could happen when reflective surfaces conserve their mirror images. Thus, the mirror becomes a projection surface and tells the stylized story of light from a decommissioned logistics and distribution center. The audiovisual performance in collaboration with the Berlin based producer Heimer tells the story of a constructed body that longs for an organic appearance within the framework of various transformations like destruction and growth until it finally recalls its constructed origin.
